Thumb-sucking

Aaron has always been a big time thumb sucker. For a while we got him to limit it to when he was going to sleep, but it didn't last. His teeth are starting to move forward already, so we decided to take action. Brad's co-worker told him about STOP by Mavala. I ordered some off Amazon and we started using it 5 days ago. He's only sucked his thumb once since we started it, and that only lasted a few seconds. It is a bitter tasting product that you just paint on the nail. Aaron was taking a nap the very first day and, without realizing it, put his thumb in his mouth. He woke up crying and spitting. I had a hard time stiffling my laughter. Since then his thumb has not made it's way back. He has a little harder time relaxing at bedtime. However, it hasn't been nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I expected some sleepless nights and grumpy days. He hasn't complained at all. He sits still and lets me paint his thumb nails (he only sucks one thumb but I paint both just to be safe). I am so excited to be done with this thumb sucking stage! What a relief! So, if you have a child that sucks their thumb, I highly recommend this stuff. Just know, on the label they recommend it only for children 3 and older. Younger kids' taste buds aren't fully developed so it may not work as well.
